Faith and Uncertainty in Turkey
A Growing Opportunity Amid Crisis
April 27, 2026

Turkey is facing a season of deep economic and social strain. Rising inflation and high unemployment have left many struggling to afford basic necessities, while a growing number of young people feel they have little future in the country. As a result, many are leaving, contributing to an ongoing reshaping of the nation.

At the same time, the country is becoming increasingly divided. Over the past two decades, large portions of the population have become more politically and religiously radicalized, while others have grown disillusioned and disengaged. This tension, combined with a significant influx of refugees—particularly from Syria—has added further pressure to an already complex environment.

Yet in the midst of uncertainty, there are signs of unexpected spiritual openness.

Modern-day Turkey holds deep biblical significance, with nearly two-thirds of the places mentioned in Scripture located within its borders. Today, that history is meeting a new moment. More young people—including educated professionals—are exploring faith in Jesus. In regions affected by the devastating earthquakes, many have turned to Christ after witnessing the practical compassion of local believers.

Local churches and ministry partners are responding in tangible ways. Church planting initiatives and leadership training are equipping new believers, while media outreach through platforms like Kanal Hayat and digital channels is reaching thousands. At the same time, the translation and distribution of Scripture in modern Turkish is making the Bible more accessible than ever.

In one earthquake-affected city—largely destroyed and still under-rebuilt—an aid center continues to serve as both a place of relief and connection. Food, water, and hygiene supplies are distributed daily, while families gather to process trauma, share tea, and find community. Interest in Scripture is growing, and new believers are being baptized even in the midst of hardship.

The impact is both practical and deeply personal. Individuals who once had no connection to Christ are now leading ministry efforts, serving their communities, and helping rebuild a Christian witness in places where it is under pressure to disappear.
