Worshippers and Pastors Abducted Amid Rising Violence in Nigeria
March 31, 2026

Across parts of Nigeria, attacks on Christian communities continue to escalate. In recent weeks, reports have described coordinated assaults on villages, the abduction of church leaders, and violence targeting believers as they gather for worship.

In north central Nigeria, entire communities are living with fear. Churches that once served as places of peace and refuge are now being targeted. Families are grieving, and many believers are unsure what the next day will bring.

Nigeria remains the most dangerous country in the world for Christians. According to recent reporting, thousands of believers have been killed for their faith in the past year alone. This is not an isolated moment of crisis. It is part of a continuing pattern of violence that has deeply affected communities across the region.

In late February and March, more than 50 people were reportedly kidnapped in coordinated attacks in Kaduna State. Among those taken were church members and a parish priest. Earlier in the year, more than 150 worshippers were abducted from church gatherings in northwest Nigeria. These events are not rare. They reflect a wider reality that many believers now face regularly.

And yet, even in the midst of fear, the Church continues to stand.

Believers continue to gather for worship. Pastors continue to serve their communities. Families continue to hold on to their faith, even when the cost is high.

Local partners, including ministries like Women of Hope, are walking closely with those affected. They are providing support to widows, caring for families who have lost loved ones, and helping communities begin to rebuild after violence.

In places where loss and trauma are deeply felt, the presence of the Church brings both practical help and spiritual hope. Believers are not only enduring hardship. They are continuing to live out their faith with courage and compassion.

A Call to Prayer

Please pray for believers in Nigeria who are living under constant threat.

  • Pray for protection over churches and communities.
  • Pray for comfort for families who have lost loved ones.
  • Pray for those who have been abducted, that they would be safely released.
  • Pray for strength and courage for pastors and leaders as they continue to serve.

Even in the darkest moments, God remains present with His people.

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
Psalm 34:18
