Snapshot: Colombia
May 1, 2025

Colombia is a country of vast differences. The big cities are modern with conveniences, fancy restaurants, and sparkling high rises. By contrast, much of the countryside is poorly developed with no electricity, water, or mobile phone coverage. The country has vast jungle regions and high mountains which are difficult for the government to control.

These rural areas are also home to guerrilla groups, militias, and criminal organizations who are involved in drug trafficking and other illegal enterprises. Christians are persecuted by these groups when they don’t support them, don’t contribute financially, or when they are perceived as a threat. Occasionally, Christians are also persecuted by indigenous groups when Christian belief or lifestyle conflicts with community values.
