Meet Bina.

Bina’s father was a Christian living in Pakistan. His neighbors pressured him to convert to Islam, but he refused. One day, as he went to the village well to bathe—just like everyone else—a mob of men attacked him with iron rods. They accused him of polluting the well simply by touching it with his Christian hands.

When Bina’s grandfather visited his son in the hospital, his son recounted what had happened. But instead of anger, he chose forgiveness. “I forgive them,” he told his father. A short time later, he succumbed to his injuries.

Justice was elusive. The men who killed Bina’s father bribed the investigator, who quickly dismissed the case. But not long after, the investigator’s son passed away. The attackers also paid off the judge, who soon fell gravely ill and became paralyzed. When a new judge was appointed, he refused their bribes—fearful of suffering the same fate as his predecessor.

Now, Bina lives with her grandfather. Their family receives support from an ICR partner, helping them navigate life without their main provider. Despite the tragedy, Bina’s grandfather holds firm in his faith. “After this terrible incident with my son,” he told ICR, “my love for Jesus has become even stronger.”

Persecution in Pakistan takes many forms—sometimes through violent attacks, but more often through systemic discrimination and a justice system that fails Christians. When Muslims attack Christians, the perpetrators frequently go unpunished. Bina not only lost her father but also the security of her family’s livelihood. Yet, even in the face of suffering, their faith remains unshaken.
