8 Christian Leaders Found Dead in Colombia
July 11, 2025

Last week, Colombian authorities confirmed that bodies found in a mass grave in Guaviare state were eight evangelical leaders who have been missing since April.

According to Protestante Digital, the victims were part of a humanitarian commission sent out by the evangelical councils in Colombia.

They were kidnapped after being summoned by FARC (Armed Revolutionary Forces of Colombia) dissidents, a break off rebel group. The prosecutor’s office stated that the group were kidnapped and executed because of unfounded suspicions that they collaborated with the ELN (National Liberation Army), another paramilitary group.

Christians in the area are frightened, and many chose to flee the area. A local pastor said the area is controlled by the FARC dissidents group, and that the whole area is under lockdown. No one is allowed out of their homes after 6 p.m., and churches have to meet during the day. Those who break the rules will be killed.

Those who were killed are: James Caicedo, Óscar García, Máryuri Hernández, Maribel Silva, Isaid Gómez, Carlos Valero, Nixon Peñaloza and Jesús Valero.
